  • At least 70 buildings and homes have been destroyed in a bushfire on the NSW Far South Coast near Tathra and Bega on Sunday. Many homes have been reduced to rubble and ash while some neighbouring homes appear unscathed.
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin has won the latest election in a landslide victory, winnig more than 75% of votes with 60% counted, extending his ruling for another six years. The President said the election result was a recognition of what had been achieved in the past few years, despite difficult conditions.
  • Matt Comyn, the incoming chief of the Commonwealth Bank has sent an email to 14,000 of his retail staff warnings them to prepapre for a confronting week at the royal commission. In the brief email, that repeated the messages of other bank bosses who wrote to their staff ahead of the royal commission's hearings, Mr Comyn addressed the bank's short comings and pledged to make good. "Where we have made mistakes we must and will take responsibility for them, we will make things right for our customers, and not repeat the same mistakes," he said.
  • Richard Di Natale has blamed internal "sabotage" for the party's failure to win the Batman byelection, as the Greens leader faces an internal backlash over the loss and disgruntled members accuse the party of "machiavellian" politics. The byelection for the inner-Melbourne seat was triggered by the resignation of Labor MP David Feeney amid the dual citizenship fiasco, but the poll quickly shifted to questions about the Adani coal mine and refugee policy.
  • US President Donald Trump has taken out his frustrations over the intensifying Russia investigation by lashing out at special counsel Robert Mueller, signalling a possible shift away from a strategy of cooperating with a probe he believes is biased against him.  Mr Trump's attacks raised new concerns among members of Congress that he may be trying to orchestrate Mr Mueller's firing.
