  • Deloitte Access Economics' latest business outlook report has forecast a global backdrop of good growth and weak inflation in 2018, which it expects to support the Australian economy. The report has forecast the Reserve Bank to keep interest rates unchanged through the year, pushing the risk of rising rates for property owners down the road. 
  • Australia is set to become one of the world's top 10 defence exporters under an ambitious $3.8 billion government plan. The new defence export strategy aims to put Australia on par with major arms-exporting countries like Britain, France and Germany within 10 years. The government believes the strategy will create new jobs and bolster Australia's troubled defence manufacturing industry.
  • CommSec's State of the States report has seen NSW take the top spot ahead of Victoria, after retaining top spot in five of the eight indicators: retail trade, dwelling starts, equipment investment, construction work and unemployment. NSW was second on economic growth and third in population growth and housing finance
  • Roger Federer has won his 20th grand slam title overnight at the Australian Open. Federer claimed victory over Marin Cilic 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. The win makes Federer the first male to every recieve 20 grand slam titles
  • The Australian dollar continues to surge against the greenback, opening the new trading week above the 81 cent level for the first time since January 2015.
