1. British MPs have voted overwhelmingly in favour of extending the March 29 deadline for Brexit, 412 votes to 202. An extension would require the approval of all the members of the Euripean Council.

2. The US Senate has overturned President Donald Trump's declaration of a national emergency to fund his border wall in a 59-41 vote, with 12 Republican senators joining the Democrats. Trump tweeted "VETO!" after the vote.

3. Gladys Berejiklian's chances of winning the NSW election in just over a week have been damaged by the "ideology and idiocy" of Federal MPs in the ongoing energy debate, former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

4. The Dow Jones managed a 0.03% or 7 point gain overnight to close at 25,709.94, while the S&P 500 fell 0.09% to 2,808.48 and the Nasdaq dropped 0.16% to 7,630.91 points.

5. Tens of thousands of students are expected to skip school across the country today to protest climate change inaction.
