1. More than $19 billion was added to the value of bank shares yesterday, with NAB up 3.91%, Commonwealth Bank rising 4.69%, ANZ lifting 6.50% and Westpac ending the day 7.36% higher.

2. The Reserve Bank of Australia kept interest rates on hold at 1.5% as widely expected. The interst rate has remained unchanged for 29 consecutive months.

3. Two bodies have been found in a stormwater drain in Townsville overnight, and are believed to be those of the two men who went missing earling on Monday morning.

4. President Donald Trump is expected to call for unity in his State of the Union address at 1pm AEDT today. The theme for Trump's speech is 'choosing greatness'.

5. The Dow Jones rose by 0.68% overnight, while the S&P 500 gained 0.47% and the Nasdaq up 0.7%.
