1. Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has promised to deliver a budget surplus in the lead up to the next election in an interview with the ABC.

2. A Productivity Commission review of superannuation has proposed changes that would deliver an additional $3.8 billion to members annually, while those entering the workforce could have over $500,000 more in their super account by the time they retire. 

3. The Dow Jones has closed higher for the fourth consecutive day, marking the longest winning streak since mid-September. There were gains for the Dow and the S&P 500, which both rose by about 0.4%, while the Nasdaq climbed 0.87%.

4. Trade talks between the US and China have come to a close, with the office of the US Trade Representative releasing a statement that the two countries discussed "ways to achieve fairness, reciprocity, and balance in trade relations".

5. A man from California has been arrested after trying to steal a winning lottery ticket from his roommate worth US$10 million.
