5 things you need to know today

1. Over 100 bushfires continue to burn in Queensland, with residents of Deepwater, Captain Creek and Broken River told to evacuate. Currently two houses, two cabins and 15 sheds have been destroyed.

2. Former ABC managing director Michelle Guthrie and former chairman Justin Milne will face a Senate inquiry today to investigate allegations of political interference at the broadcaster. Milne described Guthrie's performance in her role as "extremely poor" in a submission to the inquiry.

3. Wall Street stocks have slipped ahead of the G20 summit this weekend. The Dow Jones fell 0.11% to 25,338.83, the S&P 500 fell 0.22% to 2,737,83 and the Nasdaq fell 0.25% to 7,273.08.

4. President Donald Trump has cancelled his plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit because the Ukrainian ships and sailors that were seized by Russia on Sunday have not been returned.

5. NASA has announced that nine companies will compete for US$2.6 billion in funding as part of a renewed effort for exploration and research on the moon.
