1. Peter Dutton has said that plans to resettle refugees in New Zealand could lead to people smugglers resuming their operations.

2. It was another positive day for Wall Street, with the Dow Jones and the S&P 500 up 1.1% and the Nasdaq up 1.8%.

3. President Donald Trump has tweeted that he has had a "long and very good conversation" with Chinese President Xi Jinping "with a heavy emphasis on trade". Trump also said that "those discussions are moving along nicely".

4. A pilot who flew the Lion Air aircraft the day before it crashed had made a distress call to turn back due to technical issues. The pilot later reported the plane was operating normally and he would continue on. 

5. The Royal Australian Mint has launched a "nation-wide treasure hunt" by releasing three million special $1 coins in circulation. Prizes are available to those who can find the three specially marked coins, which feature the number 35 and 'A', 'U' or 'S'.
