1. ABC managing director Michelle Guthrie has said she is considering her legal options after being sacked by the ABC board.

2. Labor is ahead of the Liberal party in the latest Guardian Essential poll's two party-preferred vote, 53% to 47%. 61% of those surveyed believe the Liberal party should adopt quotas to improve female representation in parliament.

3. The director of the National Trade Council at the White House, Peter Navarro, believes it would be "far more difficult" to reach a trade deal with China than with Mexico because the country has "engaged in so many egregious practices", CNBC reported.

4. American cable giant Comcast outbid Fox and Disney to for European broadcaster Sky, with the company's final bid valuing Sky at over US$40 billion. Comcast shares fell more than 7%. 

5. Hawthorn's Tom Mitchell has won the 2018 Brownlow Medal, beating out Collingwood's Steele Sidebottom and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw.
