1. The Coalition has improved by 2% in the two-party preferred vote in the latest Newspoll, but remains behind the Labor party 46% to 54%. ScoMo has pulled further ahead as the preferred PM, up three percentage points to 45% compared to Bill Shorten's 4 percentage point drop to 32%.

2. Labor has announced a plan to make companies with over 1,000 employees publicly disclose gender pay gaps.

3. Thousands of people visited Queensland strawberry farms over the weekend to support farmers following the multiple incidents of needles being discovered inside the fruit.  

4. According to Goldman Sachs, the risk of tariffs being imposed on all Chinese imports to the US has "risen to 60 percent". China formally cancelled trade talks with the US over the weekend.

5. A domestic cricket match at North Sydney Oval over the weekend was interrupted by a swarm of bees, with players representing New South Wales and Victoria ducking for cover until the bees moved to a fence.
