1. Peter Dutton has claimed former Border Force boss Roman Quaedvlieg's evidence at a Senate inquiry into the au pair saga is false. Quaedvlieg wrote in a letter to the enquiry that Dutton's chief of staff contacted him to help out "the boss’s mate in Brisbane" with an au pair who had been detained due to visa issues.

2. Tarrifs on up to US$200 billion worth of Chinese imports into the US could soon be imposed following the end of a consultation period. China has vowed it would be "forced to roll out necessary retaliatory measures" if new tarrifs were introduced.

3. Actor Burt Reynolds, the star of Deliverance, Smokey and the Bandit and Boogie Nights, has died at the age of 82 after suffering a heart attack. 

4. Real Estate Institute of Australia president Malcolm Gunning has suggested people struggling to pay rental prices should take up a second job, or consider moving to Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth, in an interview with the ABC's 7.30.

5. Seven Silicon Valley entrepreneurs have reportedly set up survival bunkers in New Zealand in the past two years according to Bloomberg. The bunkers are shipped from Texas to New Zealand and then buried 11 feet underneath the ground.
