5 things you need to know today

1. Jamie Oliver has blamed Sydney’s lockout laws for his struggling Australian restaurants. In an interview with Fairfax, the celebrity chef said his Jamie’s Italian restaurant chain got dragged down by the falling nightclub scene. His franchise was run by Keystone, which also owned liquor venues and collapsed after the lock-out laws were introduced.


2. US stocks climbed to end the week, following reports that the US and China may be working towards a trade deal in November. The trade talks somewhat offset lingering tension around Turkey and other emerging markets. The S&P500 closed just off record highs.

 

3. Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his girlfriend indie pop star Grimes seem to have stopped following each other on Instagram and Twitter after a difficult week in the spotlight that sent Telsa stocks plumetting nearly 20%. It’s unclear whether the pair remains a couple.

 

4. Today is the last day you’ll be able to use food delivery service Foodora, which has entered into voluntary administration. The company had previously announced plans to withdraw to focus on different markets.

 

5. The All Blacks defeated the Wallabies 38-13 in the Bledisloe Cup over the weekend. New Zealand has now won 18 of the past 20 test rugby games against Australia.
