  • Australia has emerged as the 7th best country in the world after the US News, Best Countries survey was released today. The US has slipped behind Australia because of a growing worldwide perception that it is becoming less progressive and trustworthy, and more politically unstable. Also, the survey found that President Trump is extremely unpopular in the world with a 33% disapproval rating, making him more unpopular than Putin and Xi Jinping!
  • Netflix shares have crushed fourth-quarter subscriber expectations, adding 8.3 million subscribuers compared to the expectation of 6.4 million. Netflix stock is up 66% in the past 12 months and the share surge has pushed its market value to $110 billion!
  • Good news for wine drinkers! Australian winemakers are showing a renewed spring in their step today, with export figures released this morning showing record growth in 2017, a buoyancy not seen in the industry since 2004. Pass the rosé!
  • A manhunt continues for a rogue gunman who shot a lawyer dead at point-blank range yesterday in Bankstown. Police believe the shooting was a "targeted" attack but are unsure of who the gunman may be. 
  • Hyeon Chung has taken South Korean tennis to the world after defeating six-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic. Chung is now the most recognisable South Korean in Australia and the first Korean tennis player to reach the the quarter-final of a grand slam after earlier becoming just the third Korean to reach the round of 16 in a grand slam.
  • Metals and the Aussie Dollar have weakened overnight. The Dow Jones remained flat at 26,221, the S&P 500 rose 0.3% at 2,841 and the Nasdaq also rose 0.75 at 7,463. In Europe, the FTSE finished lower, 0.2% at 7,715 and the German DAX was up 0.2% at 13,464.
